Production supervisor – assembly: Fabrication Supervisor

shōmi! | Mississauga, ON (On-Site, Full-Time, Permanent)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Pay Rate: $36.00/hour | Language: English
NOC: 92024 – Supervisors, Other Products Manufacturing and Assembly

Main Duties

  1. Supervise, coordinate and schedule activities of production workers
  • Directly supervise all production and assembly staff engaged in fabrication of custom metal display structures, illuminated LED signage, tension fabric displays, and mixed-material assemblies
  • Develop and maintain weekly production schedules using project management software, balancing labour capacity against active deadlines
  • Inspect finished assemblies prior to shipment and document any deficiencies
  1. Resolve work problems and recommend improvements to productivity and product quality
  • Identify and resolve fabrication problems including structural fit issues, material defects, and drawing interpretation discrepancies
  • Complete non-conformance reports (NCRs) for all quality escapes; investigate root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Apply 5S principles throughout the facility and recommend process improvements to reduce waste and improve throughput
  1. Requisition materials and supplies
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials such as LED components, hardware, and consumables; create purchase orders to prevent stock-outs 
  • Receive and verify incoming materials against purchase orders; perform monthly inventory counts and reconcile against system quantities
  1. Train workers in job duties, safety procedures and company policies
  • Train production staff in fabrication techniques specific to shōmi!’s product range, including safe use of CNC machinery and hand tools, low-voltage LED wiring, and mixed-material assembly
  • Ensure all staff are current on applicable health and safety standards and WHMIS before performing any work
  1. Recommend personnel actions such as hirings and promotions
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews; recommend promotion and disciplinary actions based on documented performance assessments
  • Determine labour needs based on utilization and future job projections
  1. Prepare production and other reports
  • Review and approve job dockets for material use and personnel sign-off; investigate variances to expectations
  • Maintain documentation for NCRs and equipment maintenance
  1. Set up machines and equipment
  • Set up and ensure safe operation of fabrication equipment: CNC saws, mills, punches, swager, hand tools; trouble shoot performance issues
  • Schedule and perform preventative maintenance on production equipment; maintain maintenance logs

Employment Requirements

  • Proficient verbal and written English required for daily coordination with design, management, and clients
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience directly supervising workers in a custom manufacturing or assembly environment
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience fabricating custom metal structures and mixed-material assemblies 
  • Proven ability to read and execute custom fabrication drawings independently
  • Experience working within a 5S facility management framework
  • Proficiency with production scheduling and inventory management software
